I'm a photographer, and this blog is all about sharing my work. Through the images presented here I hope you'll experience the fun, energy, honesty and emotion I have been entrusted to document.

I specialize in the photography of family history because I love to create memorable images of real life, both for you and for your entire family. If that sounds interesting, drop me a line. I’d love to talk with you.

Until then, welcome.

Phuong + Scott’s Favourite Image

I photographed Phoung and Scott’s engagement and wedding, and the image they chose is from their wedding…and it’s an IR image to boot :)

“How do you choose just one image from such a special time in your life, especially when an amazing photographer caught the spirit of that day?? But since the question is to pick a single image.…we finally settled on this one. The reason it’s our favourite picture is because in many ways it summarizes the day: our close family gathered together under this huge tree to celebrate our marriage. We love the photo because it is so grand and so quiet at the same time. It is subtle and beautiful.

“I could actually go on about the photo but I don’t think you want to post all of that on your blog :) ?? We get a lot of double takes when people see the photo [Phoung and Scott got a canvas gallery wrap of this image, 2′ x 3′]. A lot of people ask me how you took that picture… at first they think it is a black and white photo but then they realize that it couldn’t be. Then they ask if we got married during winter…and then they realize that it isn’t a winter scene either.

Thanks for letting us be a part of your blog. I look forward to seeing what all the other couples had to say about their photos!”

I do love my IR camera :)

Picking my fave from this wedding was very difficult…many of my favourite images from all of 2007 are from this wedding. The main reason is that they gave me the two things I needed to produce my best work: trust, and time.

The trust thing is obvious: having it allows me to do the unusual things I do to get the images I am known for…most of the time, the people being photographed have no idea what I’m doing or what I see, which makes the reveal of the end result all the more enjoyable :) And the time part, well, these two allotted me over 2 hours, and we took advantage of it by going all over the place to achieve a wide variety of looks.

But the image I keep going back to is this one:

It was taken at the end of our couple time, right before we went into Bekta for dinner. I always scope out locations before each wedding, and when I went into this parking garage and saw the light against this wall, I knew that we could have something special. When Phoung stood there, and the light hit her just so…I don’t know, it’s just an image that sticks in my head.
