Carrie + Adam’s Winter Wedding

When I was talking with Carrie about her wedding plans in the early fall, we both made our wishes for fresh snow to help make the New Years Eve wedding extra special. And lucky for them, Mother Nature delivered! So that together with their no-fear attitude got them some great photos.

The day started at Carrie’s parent’s home, with carrie and the ladies getting ready, and Dad on babysitting patrol.

Then it was off to St Theresa’s Church in Ottawa for the main event.

After the ceremony, we went for a quick walk to take advantage of the freshly-fallen snow.

After playing around outside in the snow, we headed across the river to the Chateau Cartier for the party.

Of course, we snuck outside for some night-time magic, and then it was back inside to ring in the new year

Laura + Ian are Married! (Part Two)

Ok then, on with part two of Laura and Ian’s wedding! (part one is here)

Once we were back at the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club it was wedding time!

The cops showed up and we took off in the car for a quick photo shoot before dinner!

Then it was dinner time. The ambiance and decor were impeccable.

The garter and bouquet were caught by a suspiciously specific couple…:)

And then the band Run Avril Run got things rolling on the dance floor!

Laura + Ian are Married! (Part One)

I have a lot to share, so I’ve split this wedding’s images into two posts. Here we go!

I have been to some hot places in my life. Africa, Malaysia, Thailand…I remember a morning spent photographing the grounds of the Singapore Botanical Gardens back in 2003 that was so hot I had to change my shirt three times during the day. This is what came to mind as I started the day’s photography for Laura and Ian, because I think it was even hotter and more humid than southeast Asia!

How hot was it? This started off as a bag of gummi bears:

Everyone in attendance was in too great of a mood to notice though, and the day went off as one of funnest weddings I’ve ever attended…made even better because my good friend Melissa was there to help me capture the day! Thanks Melissa!

We started with the guys having a late breakfast together…

Vegetables always taste better in liquid form.

Then it was off to the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club to meet up with Laura and the ladies as they prepared for the big day.

Laura and Ian planned a late afternoon ceremony, which meant that we did a lot of the couples photography before hand. The first time they saw each other was a special moment for them both, quiet and away from the crowd. I love it when this happens.

We spent some time walking the grounds of the club, and then it was off to explore the village of Chagrin Falls

Then it was back to the club for the main event…but that will have to wait. More tk…

Laura + Ian’s Wedding Rehearsal

Laura and Ian were married in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, the cutest, quaintest little town I’ve seen in a long time. An absolute dream of a location, and such a nice change of scenery in the middle of wedding season. I arrived on Friday, and that night we joined the rehearsal party and Jekyll’s Kitchen for some good food and good times. How can you go wrong overlooking a waterfall?

Joanna + Vincent are Married!

As a photographer I tend to spend the majority of my time behind the camera, and rarely in front of it. In fact I know many photographers who really don’t like having their photo taken at all. I’m not that bad, but I will say that it does feel strange to be the one in front of the lens when you are so used to being the one pressing the button. The only way to do it is to have absolute trust in your chosen photographer…otherwise you spend the whole day second-guessing what happens and hows it’s done.

So I knew exactly how Vincent felt during the day I spent with him, documenting his wedding day with Joanna. Vincent is also a photographer, and I was very happy and honored to have the opportunity to work with them both. The weather was a bit touch and go, but all that meant was great skies and lots of hugs to stay warm…for them, not for me!

I started the day with Joanna at her home, where she got ready for the main event with her parents and sister.

We then made our way to St Patricks Church in Fallowfield for the ceremony.

Following the ceremony, we made a visit to family members that couldn’t be there in person.

After some group photos with their closest friends, we meandered around and through the Byward Market, eventually making it to the the Empire Grill for their party.

As you can see, they had a great bunch of friends there to help them celebrate.

Karolyn + Malcolm’s Wedding

These two crazy cats were married in the Glebe at St James Church. We then hopped into the vintage Impala and cruised into the market for some magic time with the wedding party. The rest of the day was at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club for dinner and party time!

Jessica + Dave’s Calabogie Wedding

Jessica and Dave were married on the shores of her family cottage in Calabogie. From start to end, these two were so much fun and clearly belonged together.

We did Magic Time before the ceremony, which mean they got to see each other privately. I’m a big proponent of this for a few reasons, but here is how Jessica felt about it:

We drove to an outdoor location (separately, to build the anticipation). I arrived first, to take a hiding spot. Dave arrived and when came around the corner…it was really special to see each other for the first time and actually enjoy the moment. And despite our private “first look,” we were still emotional when meeting on the aisle! The ceremony was surreal, a blur, but we clearly remember our “first look” in that quiet moment, just the two of us.

We messed around in the barn for a bit longer…such a great location, how could we not!

Then it was ceremony time

After that, it was one big party. I don’t think Dave stopped smiling the entire day!
